A recent LinkedIn survey reveals that 67% of employees in the UAE believe artificial intelligence (AI) will significantly change their work within the next year, with 72% anticipating similar impacts over the next five years. The research, which surveyed 1,002 professionals aged 18 and above from August 23 to August 29, found that 81% foresee AI acting as an “invisible teammate” assisting them in their tasks. The World Economic Forum (WEF) predicts that one in four jobs will transform in the next five years as generative AI matures, potentially creating and destroying millions of jobs. Despite the potential benefits of AI, there are growing concerns about job displacement among UAE workers. A January survey indicated that over half of employees worry about losing their jobs to AI over the next decade, particularly younger individuals who are more anxious about technological advancements affecting their career prospects. The LinkedIn research also highlights that while many employees are optimistic about AI’s potential, with 98% excited to use the technology and 97% believing it will aid career progression, there remains a knowledge gap. Currently, 54% of the UAE workforce uses AI in their jobs, yet 30% report a lack of formal training from employers. Furthermore, 59% express a desire to learn more about AI, though many are unsure where to start. As AI’s influence grows, interpersonal skills like problem-solving, time management, resilience, and strategic thinking will become increasingly important, suggesting that while AI may displace some jobs, it will also create demand for skills that complement emerging technologies.
